Last of the Light

Bingen Point and Marina last week at the end of the day, peaceful, refreshing, with a semi-common type of Standing Wave Cloud bridge across the Columbia River just East of Bingen, Washington. We get these several times a year, sometimes rough edged like this, and sometimes smooth clean edged formations. There can be a few of them on occasion, with space between. Each row, or bridge, forms like the froth or smooth roll of water at the top of each wave, as tho the winds are like the waves of the ocean.

Icy Catherine Creek

Today I’ve been sorting through old photos in my hard drives, and came across this series that I took in January 2011. I had so much fun wandering around in the icy conditions with my friends. I thought I would share the ones I got processed :-). I thought they were pretty cool, pun intended. This is in southern Washington.

Catherine Creek Falls has such a great flow in the winter. Notice the ice on the cliffs ūüôā

Soon after sunrise at Catherine Creek. On this image I actually used filter on my lens that belonged to a friend. Now I can’t even recall exactly what it was called but it sure made things look pretty ūüôā

A Month for Sunsets

Just this week alone there have been several remarkable sunset. ¬†Since the last post I have chased a couple more in White Salmon, Washington. ¬†Funny, I use the term “chased the sunset” as a gauge to how I am doing…or chasing clouds… If I do not say that for awhile, it is time to examine my priorities and take better care of myself!

June 18, 2016, on foot, walking the streets near home looking for a clear view for Mount Hood and the sweet standing wave clouds.

Same day, a drive up on a hill gave me this view of the Columbia River Gorge at sunset.June18-GorgeSunset-WS_5543

June 19th I was busy in the house and looked out the window and ran out into the street to catch these shots at the twilight hour.

June Sunset in the Gorge

Recently I was treated to an amazing sunset over the Columbia River Gorge in White Salmon, Washington. ¬†I drove to the top of a hill, met some new friends, and fell in love all over again with clouds and wind in my hair on a hill top as day deepened into twilight. ¬†Do you know that feeling? ¬†If not, find yourself out there somewhere, by a river, on a hilltop, in a desert. ¬†Watch past the sunset, watch for the fading light, the appearance of first planets and stars… and just breathe it all in with Gratitude.

For anyone who misses my more regular posts, I have no internet at home and it has been challenging to get somewhere with everything to post, when I do pop on internet, I have so many things to catch up on I get very little done!

Anyone want to help with that? I have a Tip Jar, a donate button on my wordpress website here, on the right sidebar down aways. Working my way back into the world again slowly, it has been a slow process this year, and have not been able to really work much lately. Things are looking up however! I will be an intern this summer at the museum in Bingen on weekends… you should pop in there and check out the displays, make a small donation to the museum, or even become a member for $20 a year for individuals!

Supermoon Lunar Eclipse

For the “Super Blood Moon” event I went with my friend Gary up on Dalles Mountain in hopes of seeing more of the moon coming over the horizon. In hindsite, I am not certain that was quite the case, but it was still a lovely night. Many people were out on the roads last night flocking to favorite locations in hopes of getting “the shot” or seeing what may for some of us be a once in a lifetime experience.
Having watched several lunar eclipses over the years, still it was really different seeing the moon become eclipsed as it was rising over distant hills as the sun set and twilight came on.
Here are a few images, each with its own time stamp. Hope you enjoy!

Grand Flying Adventure, Lady Washington from above!

I got blessed this week to be able to FLY over my home turf, a new experience for me!  Can you tell I am still thrilled?

There is a wonderful pilot tour and training company in Hood River, Oregon called Classic Wings Aero Service¬† (if you click on that blue name it will open a new page for their website). ¬†Scott took me up on an exhilarating tour over the Lady Washington, a tall ship that starred as the British ship the Interceptor in the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

She ( the Lady) was sailing near Hood River, Oregon on one of her stops along the Columbia River as part of her educational tours.  Sailed with a largely volunteer crew, the tours allow time for dockside tours (by donation); they also do evening sails in many ports, with tickets costing only $35.00 for a couple hours on the river on this historical replica. As you can see by all the people on board, the sails are popular!  Click on the blue link Lady Washington for their official website.

Here are a few detail shots from the tall ship

Meanwhile back on the small plane, up and away we went, circling back and forth across the Columbia River.  Scott seemed to know instinctively what I would find fascinating to shoot, and making sure to position the plane in various angles to the subjects, including Lady Washington.  What a joy, an exhilarating feeling being far above the hustle and bustle of towns and cars and people; all the cares of the world fade away and there is only the moment.  If you get an opportunity, save up for a tour with these folks in Hood River, Oregon called Classic Wings Aero Service  (if you click on that blue name it will open a new page for their website).

Here are a few more photos from above, all cell phone shots… and I will be doing a second post later with more images from the big camera.

Peace be with you!  Starlisa

Dinnertime with the Blue Heron

I had a lovely peaceful day recently beside Rowland Lake along Highway 14 between Bingen and Lyle, Washington.  The lake was stocked with fish that morning, and the ospreys and herons were eating good.  Click on the first photo, and then use side arrows to see all images larger.

High Prairie Sunset

My friend invited me up to her birthday barbeque on High Prairie today, and I took a photo of her goose while I was there.  Then, on the way back down the hill home, I caught these sunset images from Sunday night, last day of May 2015.  These are processed minimally, I wanted to just share as soon as possible.

FebruMay Day

ahhh, the wildflowers are blooming like crazy… they didn’t get the memo about winter being here until late March!
Catherine Creek Universal Access Area along Old Highway 8 near Lyle, WA is a wonderful ever changing place when spring hits… even if spring comes in February. ¬†Recent walks out around the paved handicap access trail in the sunshine that had a sharp bit of cold bite led to the discovery of fields of Grass Widows blooming, along with saxifrage varieties, Gold Stars, Prairie Stars, Columbia (purple) Desert Parsley as well as the yellow Desert Parsley. ¬†Pretty exciting! ¬†I will do another post soon with the wildflower closeups, but for this one i wanted to focus on this amazing beautiful day, February 22, 2015
