Glenwood Aurora

This gallery contains 15 photos.

While the majority of my aurora shots have been from Trout Lake side of Mount Adams, I found this series of shots in my archives that had been forgotten, from Glenwood, WA.  June 1, 2013  Mount Adams still features strongly.  The first two shots were of something I have not experienced any other time; and […]

Aurora Glow on Mount Adams

Hint of Aurora Glow over Mount Adams and the half frozen lake

This is from December 7, 2013, on a bitterly cold night in Trout Lake, Washington.  It was -3 deg F and about 10 pm.  The colors did not flare up as large as some I have seen, and no pillars and such, but I was delighted with the image because of the crystal clear night stars and the light glow of setting moon and the ice near shore.    I would love to hear what you think!

Settings for this image were

camera:  Canon 5D Mark ll

lens:  Canon 28-135 IS

shutter speed: 30 seconds

f-stop:  3.5

ISO:  2500

I do still have calendars left for 2014, with a new shipment coming in soon, and you can see more information on those here by clicking on this calendar image below.

A Night at the Lake

Last night I headed out from home about 11:30 pm on what has become a more rare adventure. There were rumors of Aurora activity, so I headed to a favorite location. I did get a few shots of the Aurora and am including one picture taken by the phone of the camera LCD screen. Then I crawled into my bed in the truck in spite of the very cold temperatures, and had a good sleep for a few hours. Waking up at sunrise I crawled back out and captured a few shots of a lovely morning. The golden light on fall leaves was delightful. It was a beautiful clear day and I fixed myself a small breakfast beside the lake. Such precious moments alone in nature, full of peace.

Except the Aurora shot These are all iPhone shots processed in phone while I am sitting in the parking lot of Heavenly Grounds and The Station Cafe in Trout Lake. I just restocked my photo cards here so if you are local and looking for cards there is a new selection of 20 cards available. If you are in White Salmon or Bingen area you can find my cards at Artisan’s and Dickies. Some of my large images are on the wall at North Shore Cafe in White Salmon, Washington

Aurora Borealis in Washington State

The featured image above and this next image are from June7,2013, as Northern lights danced in the midnight and early morning sky while I danced around my camera in the silence of a mountain night… which is never really silent, but alive with the songs of the stars, the movement of nocturnal birds and animals. The sort of silence that refreshes my spirits even without the Aurora dancing overhead!

ahhh, a night when color filled the sky to the north of Mount Adams, in southern Washington. What a great night!

More of the same feeling of the deep night on June 1 as I snapped images from 1 am until sunrise near Mount Adams. The rich tones of the night recharged my spirits and brought me energy. This next slideshow is taken throughout that night into sunrise. I hope you enjoy!
